Four thousand roses, 11,300 tulips, 14,000 daffodils and 3,000 hyacinths were on display during Easter Mass in St. Peter’s Square, all to enhance the celebration of the resurrection of Christ.

The variety of colors represent aspects of purity, love, innocence and new life. The white roses are symbolic of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Twenty five people work for months to grow the flowers and transport them from the Netherlands to the Vatican.

After Holy Week some will remain in St. Peter’s Square, while the rest will be relocated to the Vatican gardens.
